The Oscars

1.) I LAUGHED when Seth said he was beginning the quest to make Tommy Lee Jones laugh.  It was awesome that I wasn't the only one who noticed that.

2.) Shatner, "Why can't Tina and Amy host everything?"  :)

3.) Daniel Radcliffe and Joseph Gordon Levitt?  I literally yelled, "WHAT?!"  I love them both.

4.) Ever notice that "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast sounds an awful lot like "Les Poissons" from The Little Mermaid?

5.) Did Paul Rudd just run into the microphone with his face?  Was that on purpose?

6.) When Brave won, it would've been awesome if the guy who had won had pulled out a speech from his man purse.

7.) Maybe I should go see Life of Pi...

8.) Watching actors who are not comedic attempt to be funny on stage is...uncomfortable.

9.) "Instead of the normal gentle 'time to end your speech' music, let's play Jaws instead," joked somebody.

10.)  Ooh...Les Mis singing!  I hope they sing One Day Mor.....aw, the added song??  Lame.  Wait, they're going to sing it!  Wait, Anne Hathaway is singing Hugh Jackman's part but...huh?  Okay.  Uh-oh...uh-oh...they're not staying together!...uh-oh....WHEW!  Way to save it, Jackman.  That's a HARD number.

11.) lol, a Sound of Music joke in 2013?  AWESOME.

12.) YAYYYYY ANNE HATHAWAY!  Love her.  LOVE HER.  I was just watching Princess Diaries today :)

13.)  After Seth made the joke about not understand Salma Hayek, she seemed to speak really slowly and enunciate all her words.  :D

14.) Every time I see any in memoriam, I feel guilty when I either say, "They died?!" or "Oh man, I forgot they died..."

15.) Wow, I like Scarlet Johannson's voice!  It sounds kind of like...Zooey Deschanel/Norah Jones in a weird way.  Very sultry; I like it!  It sounds like...her mouth is puffy with sound.

16.) I've said it before, I'll say it again.  Dustin Hoffman is adorable.  I love him.  "You're a very good dancer," he says with a smile to Charlize Theron...who is a good half a foot taller than he is.  He just makes me a little happier.

17.)  Ang Lee just looks like a happy nice guy.  "Thank you movie god!"  Or possibly gods?

18.) Jack Nicholson has really strong glasses!

19.) Come on, Ben Affleck, thank Matt Damon...just because it would be funny.

Wrap up: often awkward, but in an endearing way.  I laughed a lot.

Journey - Don't Stop Believin'

Or is it Don't Stop Believing?  I'm not sure...but I AM sure I have a headache.  And I'm sure I made a video.  Unless this headache ends up being more serious than I initially thought :)

Ok, let's go!

I had the BEST dream last night.

It involved me eating a thick, juicy, delicious cheeseburger.  It was one of those life changing cheeseburgers that makes you believe in a higher power.  It was literally the best dream ever, and I awoke satiated yet hungry.

In other news, I've decided that I am ready to find a job.  I was half heartedly looking before with the hopes it would take a month for the hiring process.  Or possibly longer.  But now, I am ready.  I'm raring to go.  Let's go!  Let's go!

Unfortunately, ever since I was little, I was a, "Are we there yet?" child.  Even though I consider myself an inordinately patient person, I hate waiting for things that I want RIGHT NOW.  There is the very distinct possibly that the true reason I work so quickly is that I want to be done.  I want to meet that goal.  I want that satisfaction of checking something off my list.

Now the tricky part.  Getting a job.  Getting an awesome job with awesome people.

I also had a dream that someone from Google emailed me offering me a job, but when I looked at the job I was dismayed to discover I had to be fluent in C++.  I am not, sadly.  I did basic computer programming in elementary, middle, and high school, but never went past that.  Yes, I could make my turtle move and make shapes.

We actually started in 2nd grade; the only school to have a computer lab.  We hadn't learned angles yet, so I kept trying to to order my turtle to move 90 degrees by telling it to move...25 degrees.  I was 7.  It made sense to me.  In my mind, a circle was 100 because 100 is whole.  And if I wanted it to turn a quarter of the way, I would have to make it go 25, right?

Wrong.

The whole class struggled.  Then, my mom, who helped out in 2nd grade, told me a circle was 360.  Upset, I changed my tactic.  What kind of stupid shape is 360??  That makes no sense!  =)  I was an indignant little 7 year old, I guess.  But I did excel in that class after I learned that little tidbit.

Go figure.

360.  Hmph.

Valentine's Day

Traditionally, I do not enjoy Valentine's Day.

I don't like pink, I used to hate hearts, as a kid I hated anything remotely girly or frilly...

But my true disdain comes from my first experience with Valentine's Day.  If you are my former student, you have heard this story.  Every year.  Sometimes twice a year.  If you are not my student...you probably still have heard this story.  It has become a tradition, however, for me to tell this story on V-Day, so here I go.

Kindergarten.

I grew up in a really strict household.  We had no candy or junk food.  SOMETIMES tortilla chips would appear, but they were not children food.  At breakfast, I could have orange juice, skim milk, or water.  At lunch, I could have skim milk or water.  At dinner, I could have water.  I didn't know what potato chips tasted like until 7th grade (they sold them for 25 cents at the snack bar).  I grew up eating turkey hot dogs, and didn't know what a real hot dog tasted like until I was 17.

You get the idea.

So, when in kindergarten, we had pouches with our names on it, and candy appeared in these pouches, I was intrigued.  Truth be told, I can't remember if we brought candy and somehow my mom sent me to school with candy (this seems unlikely), or if I just didn't bring candy, or if it magically appeared from adults.  I'm inclined to go with the last option.

Having throwed my Halloween candy at my neighbor earlier that year, I had not actually had any of my candy.  While it seems unlikely that I got to kindergarten without ever having any candy, I remember having no concept of what candy was.

When I had my first piece in class, all I could think was....wow, this is delicious!  What IS this??...and I proceeded to eat all the candy in my pouch.

That's not ever a good idea, but especially when you are small and your system has never had that kind or amount of sugar...well....

I got a tummy ache.  My mom picked me up, and I already didn't feel good.  Then I felt worse.  I spent the rest of the day in bed wondering how something so delicious could make me feel so bad.  It's something that still haunts me to this day (Cheez-Its, I'm talking to you!).

I didn't go to school for 3 days.

Stupid candy.  Stupid delicious candy.

I never did it again.  At least not with candy.  I did go through a similar event with Cheetos.  And potato chips.  And every single time I've eaten Cheez-Its ever in my life.  But not with candy!

Happy Valentine's Day, everybody!  Here's hoping you don't vomit.

some randomness...

I got a twitter.  You can follow me @onenaoko if you like....though I'm not particularly interesting these days.

Today is the 4 year anniversary of having bought my house.  The only reason I remember this is because I closed on Friday the 13th in February =)  I really love Friday the 13ths.  But not the movies.

While walking home today, I had to walk around a pigeon.  When did birds get so entitled?

I spend WAY too much time playing Chefville.

As strange as it may sound, I've developed a love for roasted asparagus.  Some olive oil, salt, garlic powder, pepper...delicious!

I've discovered a few new shows that I thoroughly enjoy.  Too Cute (seriously too cute), The Chew, King of the Nerds....I've also, because of my strange sleeping schedule, have started re-watching Full House, Frasier, and Boy Meets World.  Why Full House is on at 5 in the morning, I can't tell ya.  I do plan on visiting their house at some point, however.

I've joined LinkedIn.  I kind of wanted to use my cartoon avatar as my picture, but am worried it isn't professional.  But it would say a lot about who I am!

The job hunt has begun.  Kind of.  I am looking, but everything sounds...either I don't have the skills (why am I not proficient in SQL?), it sounds boring, or it pays really low.  I'm a former teacher, so my standards for pay aren't exactly high, either.  So if you're hiring, and have an interesting job for a fun, nice, good, smart person who likes to play and amuse herself and others...but gets work done exceedingly fast and well...call me, maybe?

Troublemaker...

Because I'm on another strange sleeping around, I was watching VH1 at 5 this morning (or was it MTV?) while flipping channels and happened across a song I haven't heard before.

Or have I?

As soon as I heard it, I thought two things:
1.) Wow, that guy sounds like Adam Levine (of Maroon 5)
2.) Wow, this sounds...like a Britney Spears song...

I'm not exactly a huge Britney fan.  She became popular when I was in high school/beginning college, and I was kind the anti-Britney.  So as I sat, trying to figure out what it reminded me of, the chorus came and then I realized.  It sounds exactly like Drive Me Crazy.

Being a strange person, I also noticed it was in the same key as Drive Me Crazy.  Did I know what key Drive Me Crazy was in?  No.  But if two songs are in the same key, I'm more likely to get them confused.  It's the same reason why I can't tell any Blink 185 songs apart...they're all in the same key.

In case you were wondering, they're both in c minor.  And even the background rhythms are the same.  Do you hear it, too?

The Grammys

I didn't start watching until 9:00 because Once Upon A Time was on.  It's my new show :)  That and Too Cute.

1.) Justin Timberlake....I think I prefer you as an actor.  You seem like a really nice, cool guy.  But who told you that your falsetto was pleasant?  Who suggested you use more of it?  I think you've been lied to.  Stay in the chest voice, man.

2.) I love hearing artists perform live.  It's so much more honest, and you get to find out if they can actually sing.  (surprisingly man cannot actually sing, though they are excellent entertainers)

3.) I have had a prejudice against Alicia Keys after her first album came out and I found out she called it "Songs in a minor" because her name is Alicia and that starts with the letter A.  And no song on that album was in a minor.  And everybody thought she was an amazing piano player because she could play 2 broken chords on the piano.  She can sing, though!...but sometimes she has intonation issues.

4.) Kelly Clarkson...you're wonderful.  You're this sweet girl who came from obscurity, and you can SING.  I love your adorable awkwardness.  I think your idea of doing a duet with Adele is brilliant and I would be very excited about that.  You have my support, girl.

5.) Oh Rihanna.  I feel like we're all looking at her thinking the same thing while shaking our heads with regret.  I wish I could listen to her without knowing anything about her.  At the same time, I'm not sure I would know who she was without Chris Brown.

6.) The "end your speech" music came on, and then Jay-Z started talking, and the music immediately stopped.  That's hilarious.

7.)  YAY Lumineers!....wait, where's your cello?  Noooo,,,,,,!  I like Melissa Ethridge very intensely yelling "HEY!  HO!"

8.) Carrie Underwood...it's the first time I've heard you sing.  I don't think I like your music.  But your dress was pretty darn entertaining.

9.) There are quite a few people I think must be very strange to talk to in real life.  Prince.  Jack White.  But that's why I like musicians; we're an odd bunch.

10.) I'm really glad Gotye won, but I wanted Taylor Swift to win just to see Prince hand her the award.

11.) Man...is there anything Ryan Seacrest DOESN'T have his hands in?

12.) http://www.grammyintheschools.com/programs/grammys-music-educator-award

13.) Whoa, Frank Ocean...you have a cool name but you sang your entire song really really flat with a piano.  It was really flat.  It kind of hurt me to listen to it.  His whistling was more in tune than his singing...

14.) I get a little happier whenever I see Travis Barker perform.

That's it!  Happy Grammys!

Muse - Knights of Cydonia

I made a new video :)

It's Muse's Knights of Cydonia.

My fingers have hurt like made for the last three days from playing/practicing.  And my right arm/shoulder is all buff now.  And by buff I mean...sore.

The Superbowl

I will admit, I only watched the last 5 minutes of playing time.

The tv was on, and I meant to watch...or at least watch the commercials.  But I was a little distracted. I had a sudden urge this morning to start a new youtube video.  First, I have to transcribe my chosen song.  Enter obsessive compulsive behavior.

My favorite headphones broke.  Bad timing, headphones.

At some point, I realized the 49ers were losing so I turned off the tv in hopes that my abstaining from watching would help them.  When I checked in, the power was off in the stadium.  When I checked in again, the 49ers were throwing the ball into the end zone and a Raven was clawing at the jersey of the poor 49er trying to catch the ball.  That doesn't seem okay.

Some thoughts:

1.) I regret not watching The Puppybowl.

2.) Did a 49er say the f word on live tv after the game was over?  Am I hearing things?

3.) Wouldn't it be awesome if, when asked, "You just won the Superbowl!  What are you going to do now?" a Raven answered, "I'm going to Six Flags!"  Or Harry Potter world?

4.) That was a GROSS godaddy.com commercial.  I do not want to see anybody making out that close up.  Ever.

5.) Who was the OJ person they kept thanking and talking to?  Why is he still going by OJ?  Doesn't he realize that he's not THE OJ...and thus should NOT go by OJ anymore?

6.) I was annoyed that the retiring Raven said that when you have God on your side then you'll win (or something like that).  Does that mean God isn't on the 49ers' side?  It's like when Aaron Carter thanked God for his Nickolodean award.  -_-  (I may have said something mean to the tv when he said that)

7.) Whenever I watch football, I spend half the time trying to figure out where the ball is and who has it.

8.) Are there any Asian football players in the NFL?
